Yasiin Bey’s ‘The Ecstatic’ Reissue Featuring Chad Hugo.

Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def has officially reissued his acclaimed 2009 album 'The Ecstatic', bringing the long-unavailable project back to physical formats through Rhymesayers Entertainment. Originally released under his former stage name Mos Def on June 9, 2009, 'The Ecstatic' brought together an eclectic group of producers including Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No, Preservation, Mr. Flash, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Chad Hugo.

Chad Hugo produced the album’s second track, 'Twilite Speedball,' one of the record’s most distinctive cuts. Chad is also credited as a writer on the track, which was recorded in part at Hovercraft Recording Studios in Virginia Beach. More than 17 years after the album’s original release, 'The Ecstatic' has now returned as part of a new partnership between Yasiin Bey and Rhymesayers Entertainment. The physical reissue was released on August 14, 2026, marking the album’s first worldwide physical distribution in more than a decade and a half.

The expanded campaign includes CD, cassette, vinyl, digital and instrumental editions, alongside a deluxe package featuring the original album on two 180-gram black vinyl records, a translucent red 7-inch containing the previously unreleased bonus tracks “Size” and “The Tournament,” and a 120-page hardcover photo book featuring photography by Cognito.
